Your AI SDR

What an AI SDR actually does

The category in plain terms: what an AI SDR is, how it differs from a sequencer and from a hire, what to check before you buy one, and how Veyra approaches each part.

Definition

An AI SDR is software that does the job of a sales development representative end to end. It researches your market, decides which companies and people match your ideal customer profile, writes and sends the first message in your voice, runs the follow-ups, reads the replies, and hands you a booked meeting. You set the rules once. It does the reps.

What does an AI SDR do day to day?

Strip the label away and the work is the four jobs a human sales development representative does before a salesperson ever joins a call. It builds a list, by reading company sites, directories and live signals rather than buying a static file that started aging the day it was compiled. It qualifies that list, scoring each company on how well it fits your ideal customer profile, on whether anything suggests they need you now, and on whether the right person is actually reachable. It writes the first message, in your register, referring to something real about that specific company rather than a merge field. Then it follows up on a schedule, reads what comes back, separates genuine interest from a polite no, and puts the meeting on a calendar. An AI SDR does all four continuously, and the list never goes stale because the sweep never stops.

How is an AI SDR different from a sequencer or a mail merge tool?

A sequencer is a delivery mechanism. You bring the list, you write the copy, you decide the timing, and it presses send at scale on your behalf. A mail merge tool is the same idea with fewer moving parts: one template, a spreadsheet, a first name dropped into a placeholder. Both are honest tools, and both leave the hard parts with you. The hard parts are deciding who is worth contacting at all, working out what to say to that particular company, and keeping the follow-ups going for weeks without turning into noise.

An AI SDR takes those on. It produces the list instead of consuming one. It writes each message from evidence about that company rather than filling a template. It decides when a thread should continue and when it should stop. The test is simple: if you still have to build the list and write the copy, what you bought is a sequencer.

How does an AI SDR compare with hiring a human SDR?

A hire brings judgment, a phone voice and the ability to read a room, and nothing on the market replaces that inside a complex enterprise deal. A hire also brings a ramp of several months, a tooling stack on top of salary, holidays, and a hard ceiling on how many companies one person can research properly in a week.

Run the comparison on your own numbers rather than on a vendor's, because a salary benchmark quoted by the company selling you the alternative is worth very little. Take the fully loaded monthly cost of an SDR in the market you would actually hire in: gross salary, employer contributions, the commission at target, the tooling that person needs, the manager time to onboard and coach them, and the months before they are productive. Add it up, then divide by the qualified conversations one rep realistically creates in a month. That number is your true cost per conversation, and most teams have never calculated it.

Compare it to the same figure from a subscription, and be honest about what is not equivalent: a person exercises judgement, handles an awkward call and closes. Software does not. For most teams the useful conclusion is not that the hire disappears, but that researching, writing and chasing stop competing with selling for the same hours.

Veyra publishes every price on the pricing page, so the arithmetic above can be done before anyone talks to you.

What does an AI SDR cost?

Pricing in this category is built on one of three meters, and the meter tells you what the vendor wants you to do more of. Seat pricing punishes you for letting the rest of the team see the pipeline. Contact pricing rewards contacting more people rather than better ones. Qualified lead pricing is the only one that lines up with what you actually want, because the vendor only wins when the leads are worth talking to.

Veyra prices on qualified leads and includes unlimited seats on every plan. Solo is €199 a month for up to 200 qualified leads. Team is €499 a month for up to 800, with WhatsApp alongside email. Custom starts from €990 a month for multi-brand and multi-region work. Yearly billing takes 15 percent off. There is no free trial, on purpose: a good setup starts with warmed accounts and a sharp customer profile, not a rushed weekend.

What should you check before you buy an AI SDR?

Most of the disappointment in this category comes from buying on the demo rather than on the mechanics. The questions below are all answerable inside a twenty minute call, and a vendor who dodges one is telling you something.

Ask where the list comes from, because a bought database and a live sweep age at very different rates. Ask how the copy is produced, then read three real drafts written for your own market rather than a curated sample. Ask what happens on day fourteen, when the first message has not been answered. Ask what protects the domain the messages leave from. Ask where the data sits and who else can touch it. Then ask what the product will not do, and treat a vendor who cannot answer that one as a vendor who has not thought about it.

  • Where the list comes from: a live sweep of your market, or a database somebody bought.
  • How the copy is written: from evidence about that company, or from a template with fields.
  • What the follow-up logic is: on schedule and in context, or three copies of the same nudge.
  • What protects the sending domain: warm-up, address verification, pacing and monitoring, or nothing.
  • Where the data is processed, who the sub-processors are, and whether your data trains somebody else's model.
  • What control you keep: whether you can see, edit or stop a batch, and whether there is an audit trail.
  • What the meter is: seats, contacts contacted, or qualified leads.
  • What the product will not do, said out loud and without prompting.

How does an AI SDR keep your domain safe?

Volume is what kills a sending domain, and software can produce volume faster than any human. That makes deliverability engineering the difference between a tool that compounds and a tool that burns the asset your whole company sends email from. Four mechanics decide it. Inboxes and domains have to be warmed and verified before a single prospect is contacted, so a cold domain never starts at full volume. Addresses have to be verified before they enter the pipeline, because bounces are the fastest route to a bad reputation. Sends have to be throttled and spaced like a person writing rather than blasted. And reputation has to be watched continuously, with sending pausing on its own when it dips.

Veyra does all four. Most of the domain damage blamed on software of this kind comes from tools that blast, and pacing is not an optional extra.

Why do follow-ups decide whether an AI SDR works?

The first message almost never gets the meeting. What gets the meeting is the third one, sent eleven days later, referring to something that changed. Human teams know this and still drop it, because chasing is the least rewarding hour of the day and it is the first thing to slip when a live deal heats up.

This is where software has a genuine structural advantage: it does not get bored, and it does not deprioritize the follow-up because something more interesting landed. The part that needs care is stopping. A follow-up engine that keeps firing after somebody has replied is worse than no follow-up at all, because it tells the prospect that nobody on your side is reading. Veyra treats follow-ups as a first-class part of the product. They run on schedule, in context, until the reply lands, and they stop the moment someone answers.

What does GDPR mean for an AI SDR in Europe?

If you sell into the EU, the constraint is not that reaching new companies is forbidden. It is that you have to be able to explain what you process, why, on what legal basis, and how somebody stops it. Three practical consequences follow. The data you work from should be business contact data, the professional details of a person acting in a professional role, and not a picture of their private life. Opt-outs have to be honored everywhere and immediately, not at the end of the current sequence. And you need to know where processing happens and who else touches the data, which means your vendor needs a sub-processor list you can actually read.

Veyra is built and hosted in the EU with GDPR-aware processing from the first scan, works from business data only, honors opt-outs immediately, and never resells your data or pools it into someone else's model.

The detail sits in the privacy policy, the data processing agreement and the sub-processor list.

What can an AI SDR not do?

An AI SDR is a top of funnel worker, not a closer. It will not run a discovery call, negotiate a contract or navigate a procurement committee, and a vendor implying otherwise is selling a story. It also cannot rescue a weak offer: if what you sell is not clearly better for a specific kind of company, more volume distributes that problem faster rather than fixing it. It will not repair a domain that already has a bad reputation, and it will not invent demand in a market that has none.

What it can do is make the top of the funnel stop depending on somebody remembering: remembering to research, to write, and to chase on day fourteen. Judge it on whether qualified conversations arrive steadily, week after week, and not on whether it sounded impressive in a demo.

How does Veyra work as your AI SDR?

Veyra runs one connected motion rather than a stack of tools. It sweeps your market continuously, reading company sites, directories and live signals. It scores every candidate against your ideal customer profile on fit, intent and reachability, with the evidence attached to the score. It writes and sends outreach in your voice on email and WhatsApp, runs the follow-ups, classifies replies as interested, wants proposal or not now, and books straight onto your calendar.

The rules stay yours. You define the ideal customer profile and give a few examples of how you talk on each channel, and Veyra runs inside those rules. Review mode is an optional per-batch control for the weeks when you want eyes on a batch, with a full audit trail behind it. Email stays polished, WhatsApp stays lighter, and the register is always yours.
